Solar panels
Up to $5,000 back†
$1,000/kW, up to 50% of total costs
Battery energy storage
Up to $5,000 back†
$300/kWh, up to 50% of total costs
Participants who receive an incentive through the Home Renovation Savings program for solar PV and battery storage projects are not eligible to participate in a net-metering agreement with their LDC. These incentives are provided for projects designed for load displacement only. Load displacement means the electricity generated from a solar PV system is used exclusively to meet the home’s energy consumption needs.
Those contemplating installing solar PV and battery storage on their home can choose either to receive an incentive through the Home Renovation Savings program or to participate in a net-metering agreement with their LDC.
Learn more about net metering at the Ontario Energy Board’s website.

How does solar energy work?
Solar photovoltaic (PV) technology uses solar cells to convert sunlight directly into electricity. This can help you manage energy costs, add value to your home, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help maintain a reliable electricity grid.
Pairing solar panels with battery energy storage can help make your home more resilient. Store excess solar power in your battery to use overnight, on cloudy days, in the event of a power outage, or at times of peak electricity demand.
To be eligible in the Home Renovation Savings program, battery storage systems must be paired with a new solar PV system and sized appropriately for the solar system being installed. They should be designed to primarily store the electricity generated from the solar PV system rather than from the electricity grid.
How to qualify
To receive solar and storage rebates, you must:
Be at least 18 years of age.
Live in a single detached, semi-detached, row house, townhome, or mobile home on a permanent foundation.
Own the home where the solar and battery storage systems will be installed. Where an owner has tenants, the owner must apply. You must be the person responsible for paying for the purchase and installation of the solar and battery storage systems.
Be connected to the Ontario electricity grid.‡
See detailed eligibility requirements on our Terms and Conditions page.
Cornwall Electric customers are connected to the Hydro-Québec electricity grid and therefore are not eligible to participate.
